报告摘要:

1Nano-EngineeredMechanics: Why Nano?

Why nano-engineeringis a new field, what is nanotechnology? How the length scale play a criticalrole in hybrid materials.  The talk focus on the transition from metal tocomposite to nanomaterials.  The emphasis is on nanomechanics and hownanomaterials can be put to useful engineering applications. The talk willinclude three reasons for using nano, and will include nano-engineering indamage mechanics and impact dynamics.  The critical component of design issafety of materials usage.  The nanomaterials is more expensive, and thus, their use is limited to the case when the same design and use of structurescannot be done by using composites (or metals).

(2)  HowTo Write Papers To Enhance SCI Journal Acceptance?

The criteria forjournal acceptance will be discussed, and explained.  This will include 11tips, and detailed descriptions on what an editor will look for, and why apaper is accepted or rejected.  This talk will enable students andprofessors to pay special attention on abstracts, introduction, methodology, results and conclusions. The talk will also involve how to conduct research toget the best results, and how to write MS or Ph.D. theses.

报告人简介 David Hui Professor University of NewOrleans

Dr.David Hui is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of CompositesMaterials Research Laboratory at University of New Orleans. He received hisPh.D. from University of Toronto in Aerospace Engineering, and Master ofScience from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Dr. Hui has editedover 40 widely cited books, as evidence in the Google Search showing on thesebooks. Other books include, editor of Army Research Office workshop"Dynamics of Structures" proceedings, ICCE/1-24, SES, ASME books andnumerous special issues of journals, and served as numerous keynotelecturers.  He has served as founder and editor-in-chief ofone of the most prestigious journals in composite materials, Composites BEngineering journal, currently in its 25th year of publication and impactfactor is 4.727 in year 2016. This journal ranks in top 4%among 85 journals in Engineering Multidisciplinary category in ISI.Currently, he serves on the editorial board of 11 SCI journals, seven of them are nano journals, and the rest are mostly composite materialsjournals. Dr. Hui is ASME Fellow, ICCE Life Member, AIAA AssociateFellow and CASI Associate Fellow. Dr. Hui was awarded The OhioState University Research Award, ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Certificateof recognition, ASME Ralph James Award (ASME Petroleum Division), NASACertificates of Recognition, ASME ETCE Service Awards, the University of NewOrleans Alumni (lifetime) Career Research Achievement Award and the Universityof New Orleans, University Research Professor. Dr. Hui is the chairman of ICCE,which has grown to be one of the world's pre-eminent annual"technical" composite materials or nano-materials conference.

Dr. Hui hasconducted approx. 4 million US dollar funded research on composites materialsand nanomaterials, mostly for mechanical/aerospace engineering and shipstructures applications. He is widely known for his research on (i) nanomaterials mechanical properties modeling and prototyping (ii) mechanicalbehavior of materials under high or low temperatures, flammability and creep ofcomposite materials, including smart material and structures, (iii) impact ofblast dynamics, micro-crack initiation and growth under thermal and mechanicalloadings and (iv) infrastructure composites under harsh environments. Dr.Hui has co-authored over 220 SCI journal publications, and thesepapers have received over 3000 citations from ISI web of science (over1300 citations per year in 2017, not including self -citations fromwww.webofscience.com).  Currently, Dr. Hui serves on over 40technical committees or editorial boards, consisting of over 2000 respectedscientists on specific diverse fields of materials or nano science. One of Dr.Hui’s outstanding contributions in research lies in the modeling of penetrationof composite materials using the energy partition model and functional gradedapproach to enhance the durability and safety of engineering structures underharsh environments.  His pioneered research on the mechanisms ofdegradation of materials under low temperatures on composites has resulted inenormous improvement in the safety of engineering structures, and work in collaborationwith US Army Cold Regions research and Engineering Lab, the only lowtemperature lab in the Dept of Defense in USA.   Dr. Hui  wasthe first to validate the dramatic effects of small curvature on vibration offlat plates, leading to the re-design and reanalysis of  many structurescritical for engineering safety.

Dr. Hui was therecipient of research grants from NASA, ARO, ONR, AFOSR, NSF, LEQSF,US Army CRREL, GCRMTC, NOAA, Wright Patterson AFB, UniversalEnergy, Avondale Shipbuilding Inc., Northrup Grumman Ship Systems, amongothers. In recent years, Dr. Hui presented numerous keynote lectures: He wassuccessful in promoting federally funded multi-universities partnerships onnano-materials or composite or nano-materials.
